How it works

Three steps to a working inbox.

    Add your domain

    Enter a domain you already own. We show you the DNS records to add where you manage the domain's DNS, usually your registrar, and say what each one is for. Add them, press Check, and we tell you which are in place. DNS changes usually show up within minutes, sometimes up to a day.

    Create an address

    Choose hello@, hi@, or your own name. Once the domain's records are in place, mail sent to the address arrives in your inbox.

What it is for

For mail between people.

imado is for the mail you write and the mail people send you. It is not for newsletters, campaigns, or mail sent automatically by software; those need a service built for them. Keeping bulk mail off imado, and limiting how much any one account can send, is how we keep imado addresses in good standing with Gmail, Outlook and the rest.

Questions

Before you connect a domain.

Do I need to buy a domain from you?
No. Use a domain you already own, from any registrar. imado does not sell domains.
Can I keep my registrar and DNS host?
Yes. You add a few records where you manage the domain's DNS, which is usually your registrar. Nothing else changes, and any DNS host that lets you add TXT, CNAME and MX records works.
What happens to mail my domain already receives somewhere else?
Mail for a domain is delivered to one provider at a time. Once you add the receiving record, new mail arrives at imado instead of the old place; messages already in the old inbox stay there. To switch back, change that one record back.
Will my mail land in spam?
The records you add prove to Gmail, Outlook and the rest that mail from your domain really came from your domain; the check is called DKIM. Every account also has sending limits, for example 25 messages a day from one address on Free, so nobody on imado can send in bulk and hurt delivery for everyone else. Can I read it in Gmail or Apple Mail?
Not yet. Today you read and reply in the browser. Connecting a mail app, which needs IMAP, is on the roadmap without a date.
Is it really free?
Yes. Free is 3 domains and 1 GB at $0, with no time limit. While imado is in alpha the paid options are free as well, and we give notice before that changes.
Can someone else read a mailbox with me?
Yes. Invite them and they see only what you share, nothing else on your account. There is no charge per person.
